India and Australia Officially Launch Renewable Energy Partnership to Boost Climate Action
India and Australia have officially initiated a Renewable Energy Partnership to enhance mutual investments in renewable energy. This development follows discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The talks took place during the 2nd India-Australia Annual Summit, held alongside the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro. The leaders reaffirmed their dedication to advancing their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership across various sectors.

Renewable Energy Partnership
The Renewable Energy Partnership (REP) was a key highlight of the summit. It aims to foster collaboration in areas like solar photovoltaic (PV), green hydrogen, and energy storage. The REP also focuses on boosting two-way investment in renewable projects and enhancing skills training for future renewable energy workers. This initiative aligns with both countries' shared ambition to accelerate climate action by leveraging their complementary strengths.
Both leaders expressed enthusiasm for the REP, which was initially agreed upon during the first India-Australia annual summit. According to a joint statement, this partnership will provide a framework for practical cooperation in priority areas. "Our renewable energy partnership is officially launched," Albanese stated, emphasising its potential to increase investments in sectors such as solar and green hydrogen.
The summit also highlighted the broader Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Australia. This partnership covers defence, security, trade, education, skills development, sports, space exploration, mobility, and people-to-people connections. Both nations are committed to furthering these ties to achieve mutual benefits.
Albanese noted the significant collaborative efforts underway to drive the renewable energy transition. These efforts aim to help both countries meet their net-zero targets. The partnership is expected to play a crucial role in achieving these environmental goals while strengthening bilateral relations.
The Renewable Energy Partnership represents a significant step forward in India-Australia relations. By focusing on renewable energy, both countries aim to address global climate challenges while fostering economic growth through sustainable practices. This collaboration underscores their commitment to a greener future and mutual prosperity.
