Intestine Importation Scheme Uncovered: Six Arrested in New York
Federal authorities in New York have arrested six individuals involved in an illegal importation scheme of goose and duck intestines from China. The scheme involved disguising the intestines as nail clippers and pet grooming products to bypass customs regulations. The imported food items were then transported to California and sold to customers, including restaurants, in New York.
In a recent development, federal officials in New York have announced the arrest of six individuals involved in the illegal importation of goose and duck intestines from China. The scheme involved mislabeling and concealing the restricted food items to bypass customs regulations.

Modus Operandi of the Illegal Importation
The individuals involved in this illegal operation employed various methods to smuggle the restricted food items into the United States. In one instance, 1,966 cartons of goose and duck intestines were shipped from China to the Port of Long Beach in August 2022. However, customs forms falsely declared the contents as nail clippers and other pet grooming products.
To further evade detection, the cartons were transported to Los Angeles International Airport and flown to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York via a major U.S. air carrier's cargo service.
In another incident in November 2022, a shipment of illegal poultry products was mislabeled as frozen seafood. Additionally, some of the restricted items were cleverly concealed under packages of dead rattlesnakes.
Legal Implications and Charges
Federal law strictly prohibits the importation of any raw poultry products from China, including goose and duck intestines. Furthermore, hawthorn fruit from China is also subject to import restrictions.
The six individuals arrested in connection with this illegal importation scheme are facing charges of importing, storing, and selling hundreds of pounds of illegal food items between August 2022 and May 2023.
Expected Court Appearance and Ongoing Investigation
The six individuals involved in this case are expected to appear in federal court in Brooklyn later on the same day of their arrest. Their attorneys have been contacted for comment, but no statements have been released at the time of this report.
Federal authorities are actively investigating the case, and further details may emerge as the investigation progresses.
The illegal importation of restricted food items poses significant health and safety risks to consumers. The arrest of these six individuals highlights the ongoing efforts of federal agencies to combat such illegal activities and ensure compliance with import regulations.
