IDF Takes Out Hezbollah Commanders, Confirms Safieddine And Hazima In Major Strike

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has confirmed the elimination of Hashem Safieddine, the head of the Hezbollah Executive Council, and Ali Hussein Hazima, the commander of Hezbollah's Intelligence Headquarters, along with several other Hezbollah commanders.

The strike occurred approximately three weeks ago in Dahieh, a known stronghold for the militant group in Beirut.

IDF Takes Out Hezbollah Commanders

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) executed a precise, intelligence-driven operation targeting Hezbollah's main intelligence headquarters, which was strategically located underground beneath civilian areas in Dahieh. The IDF reports that over 25 Hezbollah operatives were present at the time, including Bilal Saib Aish, who led aerial intelligence gathering for Hezbollah's operations in Syria.

Hashem Safieddine was a significant figure within Hezbollah, serving on the Shura Council, the organization's highest military-political decision-making body. As a cousin of former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Safieddine wielded considerable influence, often stepping in as acting Secretary-General during Nasrallah's absences. He had a long history of orchestrating attacks against Israel and was involved in key strategic decisions within the organization.

Ali Hussein Hazima, who also lost his life in the strike, was responsible for directing multiple attacks on IDF soldiers and played a critical role in Hezbollah's intelligence operations.

The IDF has stated its commitment to continuing operations against senior Hezbollah figures and any individuals deemed a threat to Israeli civilians. The recent strike underscores the ongoing tensions in the region and Israel's determination to neutralize threats from militant groups operating along its borders.

Brief on Hashem Safieddine's Public Persona and Rise to Leadership

Hashem Safieddine, head of Hezbollah's Executive Council, has emerged as a prominent figure within the organization, known for his strong commitment to Hezbollah's militant ideology. At a recent event in Dahiyeh, Beirut's southern suburbs, he expressed solidarity with Palestinian fighters, stating, "Our history, our guns, and our rockets are with you." His outspoken nature and familial ties to Hassan Nasrallah position him as a formidable leadership candidate.

Analysts suggest that Nasrallah has been grooming Safieddine for significant roles within Hezbollah, enhancing his visibility and influence. Phillip Smyth, an expert on Iran-backed Shiite militias, highlighted Safieddine's increasing public presence, noting, "They've had him come, go out and speak." His physical resemblance to Nasrallah and his religious status further bolster his prospects as a potential leader. Additionally, Safieddine has openly criticized U.S. policies toward Hezbollah, asserting that American pressures only strengthen the group's resolve.
