Florida Deputy Charged with Manslaughter After Accidental Shooting of Girlfriend
A former deputy from north Florida has been dismissed after admitting to accidentally shooting his girlfriend while cleaning a firearm, according to authorities. Ocala police reported that officers arrived at Marion County Deputy Leslie Boileau's residence and discovered a woman with a fatal gunshot wound to her forehead and a 9mm handgun on her lap. A rifle was also present at the scene.

Boileau explained to officers that the incident happened while he and his girlfriend were handling and dry firing the guns. After being detained, he confessed to detectives that he accidentally fired a loaded round while demonstrating the use of a rifle, resulting in the woman's death. A search warrant executed at Boileau's home supported his account, according to police.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The Ocala Police Department is collaborating with the State Attorney's Office to ensure justice is served, as stated by Ocala Police Chief Mike Balken. Boileau was arrested and charged with manslaughter. It remains unclear if he has legal representation, as online jail records did not show his booking, nor was his case listed on the county clerk of courts website.
Authorities have not yet released the name of Boileau's girlfriend. The investigation continues as officials work to gather more details about the tragic event. The community is awaiting further updates from law enforcement agencies involved in the case.
Impact on Law Enforcement Community
Boileau was immediately terminated from his position at the sheriff's office, where he had served for eight years. Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods expressed support for the Ocala Police Department's efforts in handling the situation. "Tens of thousands of law enforcement officers do their job commendably every day," Sheriff Woods stated. "But unfortunately, the tragic actions of just one are felt through the entire law enforcement community."
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local law enforcement community, highlighting concerns about firearm safety and accountability among officers. Discussions are ongoing regarding measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The case continues to unfold as investigators piece together evidence and testimonies. The community remains focused on ensuring justice is achieved for all parties involved in this unfortunate incident.
