Gila Bend, US - A tragic incident unfolded in Gila Bend, approximately 70 miles southwest of Phoenix, when an experimental, homemade aircraft crashed, resulting in the death of one individual and severe injuries to another. The unfortunate event transpired on Sunday, March 18, at around 9:45 am near the Gila Bend Municipal Airport, as confirmed by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office in a news release.

Details surrounding the circumstances of the crash remain unclear, with authorities yet to determine whether the aircraft was taking off or attempting to land at the time of the incident. The identities of the two individuals involved in the accident have not been disclosed by officials.
Experimental Aircraft Involved
The aircraft involved in the crash has been identified as an Experimental Amateur Built Air Creation Twin, according to a statement issued by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) on Sunday. Jack Norris, the owner of AZ Aeroservices, a company that specializes in selling experimental aircraft kits, provided insights into the nature of the aircraft.
Norris described the Experimental Amateur Built Air Creation Twin as a "motorcycle with wings," highlighting its unique characteristics. He further noted that while these aircraft can be purchased as kits, they are more susceptible to weather conditions and require a high level of pilot skill, which may not always be consistent.
Ongoing Investigations
NTSB officials are expected to arrive at the airport on Monday to commence their investigation into the crash. Additionally, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will also conduct its own investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident.
