Donald Trump Supported Israel's Plan To Kill Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei: US Officials

US President Donald Trump recently rejected an Israeli proposal to assassinate Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Two US officials disclosed this information to media, stating that the decision was made after Israel launched a significant attack on Iran aimed at disrupting its nuclear program. The officials, who spoke anonymously, mentioned that top U.S. and Israeli officials have been in constant communication since the strikes.

When questioned about the report by Reuters, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded during an interview with Fox News Channel's "Special Report With Bret Baier." He remarked, "There's so many false reports of conversations that never happened, and I'm not going to get into that." He further added, "But I can tell you, I think that we do what we need to do, we'll do what we need to do. And I think the United States knows what is good for the United States."

US-Iran Negotiations

Trump has expressed hope for renewed negotiations between the U.S. and Iran regarding Tehran's nuclear ambitions. However, talks scheduled for Sunday in Oman were canceled due to the recent military actions. Trump told Reuters on Friday, "we knew everything" about the Israeli strikes.

The officials did not confirm whether Trump personally communicated the decision to Israel. However, they noted that Trump has been in frequent contact with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. The senior U.S. administration official stated, "Have the Iranians killed an American yet? No. Until they do we're not even talking about going after the political leadership."

International Reactions

The situation has garnered significant international attention as tensions between Israel and Iran escalate. The decision by Trump reflects a cautious approach amidst these heightened tensions. The ongoing dialogue between U.S. and Israeli officials underscores the complexity of geopolitical strategies in addressing nuclear threats.
