Convert to Islam and I can guarantee an acquittal, prosecutor says

Pakistan is known to be a religiously extremist state. Here is another incident which proves just that.

Convert to Islam and I can assure you of an acquittal is a shocking statement made by a prosecutor in Pakistan. The prosecutor was dealing with a case in which 42 people belonging to Christianity were charged with lynching two men after March 2015's suicide blasts.

The Express Tribune reported that the prosecutor told the 42 men that if they renounced Christianity and convert to Islam, then their acquittal could be guaranteed. Joseph Franci, a rights activist who is assisting the accused said that the Deputy District Public Prosecutor Syed Anees Shah had made this offer to the accused persons.

Franci said that the accused were taken aback when the offer had been made. It was also reported that one of the accused said that he was ready to be hanged instead of renouncing his religion. The prosecutor however denied the allegations at first. However when he was told that they had video evidence of the same, he said he may have made such an offer.
