Burj Khalifa Does Not Display Pakistani Flag On Independence Day, Pakistanis in Dubai Fume
A video that has gone viral shows the disappointment and frustration of hundreds of Pakistanis in Dubai, UAE. They were left dismayed as the iconic Burj Khalifa failed to display their national flag at midnight on their Independence Day, August 14. Reports indicate that a sense of disappointment and even a perception of a "prank" being played on them swept through the crowd.
The video captures a scene where numerous Pakistani nationals gather near the world-renowned skyscraper, hopeful and eager for their national flag to illuminate the building. However, their hopes turned to disbelief and letdown as the minutes past midnight unfolded without their flag being projected.

In the video, a woman recording the scene can be heard saying, "It's 12:01 am now, and Dubai officials have conveyed that Pakistan's national flag won't adorn the Burj Khalifa. This has become our reality. Even though Pakistanis are raising slogans here, our flag won't grace the Burj Khalifa. It's truly disheartening, and it feels like a prank has been pulled on us."
Among the crowd gathered near the building, the chants of 'Pakistan Zindabaad' (Long Live Pakistan) could be heard, underscoring their disappointment over the unfulfilled flag projection on the Burj Khalifa.
Worth noting is that Dubai boasts a significant expatriate population from both Pakistan and India. The Burj Khalifa was illuminated with the green Pakistani flag on their Independence Day last year. However, in 2019, the building drew ire from the Pakistani community for displaying their flag 'upside down'.
Meanwhile, the iconic structure was adorned in the tricolour of the Indian national flag to commemorate Republic Day on January 26. It is expected to adopt a similar display for India's 76th Independence Day on August 15.
