Nicholas Prosper Sentenced to Minimum 49 Years for Family Murders and School Shooting Intent
A British teenager, Nicholas Prosper, was sentenced to a minimum of 49 years in prison for the murder of his mother and two siblings. The 19-year-old had ambitions of carrying out a high-profile school shooting. During the sentencing at Luton Crown Court, Justice Bobbie Cheema-Grubb considered a life sentence but opted for a lesser term due to Prosper's age and guilty plea.

Last month, Prosper admitted to killing his mother, Juliana Falcon, 48, his sister Giselle, 13, and brother Kyle, 16. The tragic event occurred on September 13 at their shared apartment in Luton, Bedfordshire. Prosper also stabbed his brother over 100 times during the attack.
Details of the Crime
The court learned that Prosper had planned the attack on his family and former elementary school for Friday the 13th, aiming for notoriety. He forged a gun license to purchase a shotgun and ammunition from a legitimate dealer just before the murders. His plan was to kill his family while they slept, but his mother awoke, leading to a struggle.
After killing his mother, Prosper left a copy of "How to Kill Your Family" on her legs. He then shot his sister as she hid under a table and both stabbed and shot his brother. The judge noted that Prosper's actions were driven by a desire for infamy.
Motivations and Influences
Justice Cheema-Grubb highlighted that Prosper wanted to surpass infamous shootings like those at Sandy Hook Elementary School and Virginia Tech. She stated that he aimed to be remembered as "the world's most famous school shooter of the 21st century." His case shared common traits with other school shootings, including an interest in children, online isolation, and lack of empathy.
Prosper's father, Raymond Prosper, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of his family members. He acknowledged that their deaths prevented further tragedy in the community. Bedfordshire Police Detective Superintendent Rob Hall read Raymond's statement in court.
Aftermath and Legal Proceedings
Following the attack, police found Prosper on a nearby street with blood on his hands, clothes, and glasses. He appeared "cheerful" when apprehended. The swift response by Bedfordshire Police was credited with preventing additional harm.
The judge remarked on the recurrent themes in Prosper's case seen in other school shootings worldwide. These included a fascination with violence and a deliberate choice of attire for the killings. Despite being unable to maintain education or employment, Prosper meticulously planned the attack.
The sentencing reflects the gravity of Prosper's crimes while considering his age at the time. The court's decision aims to balance justice for the victims with recognition of Prosper's youth and guilty plea.
