Barack Obama Wants Joe Biden To Quit US Presidential Race: Report

Former US President Barack Obama has advised that Joe Biden reconsider his bid for reelection, according to a report from the Washington Post on Thursday.

Obama reportedly feels that Biden's chances of winning have diminished and believes the 81-year-old president should "seriously consider the viability of his candidacy," based on sources familiar with his views.

There has been no immediate comment from Obama, who served as president from 2009 to 2017 with Biden as his vice president and remains an important figure within the Democratic Party, reported AFP.

If Obama publicly shares this sentiment, he would become the most prominent Democrat to urge Biden to withdraw, joining others within the party who have expressed similar concerns following Biden's poor debate performance against Donald Trump.

Despite isolating with COVID-19 at his beach house, Biden has dismissed worries about his age and fitness, maintaining his intention to run for reelection. However, pressure is increasing.

Reports suggest that Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries have also recently met with Biden, cautioning that his candidacy could jeopardise the party's success in the upcoming November election.
