Top-Secret Army Intelligence Analyst Arrested for Selling Sensitive Military Information
An Army soldier with top-secret clearance has been arrested and charged with selling sensitive military information to an unidentified individual. The soldier, Korbein Schultz, allegedly conspired to disclose various documents, photographs, and other national defense materials since June 2022.
In a concerning turn of events, an Army soldier named Korbein Schultz has been apprehended on charges of selling sensitive information pertaining to U.S. military capabilities. The Justice Department officials disclosed this startling revelation on Thursday, shedding light on a serious breach of national security.

Charges and Allegations
Schultz, who also serves as an intelligence analyst, faces a six-count indictment encompassing grave charges. These include conspiring to obtain and disclose military defense information, as well as bribing a public official. The indictment asserts that Schultz, possessing a top-secret security clearance, allegedly conspired with an individual referred to as "Conspirator A" to divulge various documents, photographs, and other national defense materials since June 2022.
Recruitment and Sensitive Information
According to the indictment, Schultz was recruited by Conspirator A not merely due to his high-level security clearance but also because of his specific task of gathering sensitive U.S. military information. The information Schultz allegedly provided encompassed crucial details related to the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, hypersonic equipment, studies on future developments of U.S. military forces, and analyses of military drills and operations in major countries like China.
Initial Request and Long-Term Partnership
The indictment reveals that Schultz was initially approached to provide documents detailing lessons that could be gleaned from Russia's war with Ukraine and how those lessons could be applied to the U.S. in assisting Taiwan in the event of an attack. For this information, Schultz received a payment of $200. This transaction prompted Conspirator A, described as a foreign national residing in Hong Kong, to propose a long-term partnership, suggesting that Schultz could earn more money by handing over "internal only" material rather than unclassified documents.
Financial Transactions
In total, Schultz is alleged to have received at least 14 payments amounting to a total of $42,000. These illicit transactions underscore the gravity of the situation and the potential damage caused by Schultz's actions.
Contextualizing the Case
This case joins a series of federal prosecutions involving current or former military members accused of illegally disclosing sensitive government secrets. Recent instances include the indictment of Massachusetts Air National Guard member Jack Teixeira in April 2023 for leaking highly classified military documents about Russia's war in Ukraine on Discord. Teixeira pleaded guilty and faces a minimum of 11 years in prison. Additionally, two U.S. Navy sailors were charged in August with providing sensitive military information to China, including details on wartime exercises, naval operations, and critical technical material. Furthermore, the Justice Department recently announced charges against a civilian Air Force employee and retired Army lieutenant colonel for sharing classified information about the war with Ukraine on a foreign dating site.
The arrest of Army soldier Korbein Schultz for selling sensitive military information serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities within our national security apparatus. As authorities continue to investigate and prosecute individuals involved in such illicit activities, it becomes imperative to reinforce the importance of safeguarding classified information and upholding the integrity of our military operations.
