Elon Musk Shares Video of Argentinas President-elect Javier Milei
Elon Musk has shared a video of Argentinas President-elect Javier Milei, in which he says that equality should never come before freedom.
Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of the social network X (formerly Twitter), has expressed his support for Argentina's incoming president-elect, Javier Milei. Musk shared a video on Tuesday in which Milei argues that freedom should always take precedence over equality. Milei responded to Musk's post on X, saying, "We need to talk, Elon."
Milei's Views on Equality and Freedom
Milei, a libertarian, has been outspoken in his opposition to efforts to make societies more equal. In the video shared by Musk, Milei argues that prioritizing equality over freedom ultimately leads to achieving neither. He cites the American economist Milton Friedman, who said, "When you prioritize equality over freedom, you end up achieving neither. But when you prioritize freedom over equality, you achieve many of both."
Milei also argues that a society that emphasizes equality "ultimately becomes a society of looters and it sinks. That is the history of Argentina." He believes that income redistribution involves "using the repressive apparatus of the state to take from the successful" and distributing it arbitrarily "based on what the person in power wants."
Milei's Popularity Among Conservatives
Milei's views have resonated with many conservatives, including former US President Donald Trump and former Fox News host Tucker Carlson. Trump congratulated Milei on his victory in a phone call last month and said he planned to visit Buenos Aires. Carlson interviewed Milei before the election and praised his views on freedom and equality.
Milei's election has been seen as a sign of the growing popularity of libertarian ideas in Argentina. He takes office on Sunday and has promised to implement a series of reforms, including reducing taxes and regulations, privatizing state-owned enterprises, and reforming the education system.
Elon Musk's support for Javier Milei is a sign of the growing influence of libertarian ideas in Argentina. Milei's views on freedom and equality have resonated with many conservatives, and his election has been seen as a sign of the changing political landscape in the country. It remains to be seen how Milei's presidency will impact Argentina, but his election is a clear indication that the country is moving in a new direction.
