Pakistani religious scholar Mufti Abdul Qavi has triggered a controversy after claiming that he will marry Indian actress Aishwarya Rai as her marriage with Abhishek Bachchan is heading for a divorce.

A video of the Muslim cleric's sensational claims has gone viral. In the clip, he is seen saying that the Bollywood icon may soon send him a proposal for marriage.

Mufti Qavi asserts that reports indicate a deterioration in the relationship between Aishwarya Rai and her husband, Abhishek Bachchan. Capitalizing on the public speculation, the cleric claimed that should a separation occur, "in two to four months Aishwarya Rai will send me a message for marriage."

When pressed by the host regarding the feasibility of marrying a non-Muslim woman, Mufti Qavi stated his intent to first convert the actress to Islam, declaring he would then bestow upon her the name "Ayesha Rai." He referenced a previous instance involving Indian public personality Rakhi Sawant, who had publicly claimed to embrace Islam, to support his plan.

He said, "Pakistani Mufti says that he will marry Indian actress Aishwaria Rai in about 3/4 months after she proposes him. Says he will convert her to Islam, name her Ayesha Rai."

This is not the first time Mufti Qavi has generated headlines with provocative personal remarks concerning Indian celebrities. He previously offered a public marriage proposal to Rakhi Sawant, who responded by noting that "tolerating Mufti Qavi is not easy" and characterizing him as "a very different person."
