Zomato Rolls Back Green Uniform Decision For Veg Fleet Amid Row

A day after Zomato introduced its new "pure veg" flee and released a different "green color" jersey for its riders, the food delivery giant has rolled back its decision. In view of a debate sparked online, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal said all Zomato delivery partners will continue to wear red color jerseys.

In a post on X, Zomato's CEO said, "While we are going to continue to have a fleet for vegetarians, we have decided to remove the on-ground segregation of this fleet on the ground using the color green. All our riders - both our regular fleet and our fleet for vegetarians, will wear the color red."

The company said customers will now have the option to switch to "pure veg" mode in their mobile applications.

"This will ensure that our red uniform delivery partners are not incorrectly associated with non-veg food, and blocked by any RWAs or societies during any special days... our rider's physical safety is of paramount importance to us," Deepinder Goyal said.

He added that some of the customers who want to hide that they are eating non-veg could get into trouble because of the company and Zomato respect their choice and privacy.

Zomato CEO also thanked social media users for bringing such important points to their notice.

"You made us understand the unintended consequences of this rollout. All the love and all the brickbats were all so useful - and helped us get to this optimal point. We are always listening, without unnecessary ego, or pride. We look forward to continue serving you," he added.

The company also noted that some societies may deny entry to Zomato riders carrying non-veg or wearing a red jersey, which forced Zomato top brass to roll back their decision.
