Kalpana Soren, wife of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, is likely to take over as the new head of the state. According to the reports, Hemant Soren is keeping Kalpana Soren ready as a backup after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) tightened its grip over him in relation to an "illegal" ownership of a mining lease.
For the unversed, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JJM) is running an alliance government in Jharkhand with the Congress and the RJD. The reports added Soren has informed Congress and RJD MLAs about the political uproar and requested them to stay on standby in the capital, Ranchi, as he might step down and hand over the reigns of the state to his wife Kalpana Soren.

Jharkhand state assembly has a total of 81 seats. Out of which, BJP is the single largest party with 32 MLAs, while JMM is at the second spot with 29 elected members. JMM is followed by its alliance partner Congress with 17 seats, RJD and CPI (ML) 1 seat each.
On the other hand, JMM's competitor in the state, AJSU, who is also a member of the NDA group, won 3 seats. NCP 1 and others bagged 2 seats.

As per the information available on the internet, 43-year-old Kalpana Soren has attained a master's degree in engineering and also holds an MBA.
