What is the Territorial Army? Check Eligibility, Recruitment Process, Last Date To Submit Application & More
Amid rising tensions with Pakistan, the Central Government has empowered the Chief of the Army Staff to call upon personnel from the Territorial Army (TA) to support and strengthen the regular armed forces. The move, effective from February 10, 2025, to February 9, 2028, is enabled under Rule 33 of the Territorial Army Rules, 1948.
A total of 14 out of the 32 existing Territorial Army Infantry Battalions will be activated for deployment across key operational regions, including the Northern, Southern, Eastern, Western, Central, and South Western Commands, as well as the Andaman and Nicobar Command and the Army Training Command (ARTRAC). Deployment will proceed based on budget availability or fund re-appropriation. In cases where other ministries request TA support, the associated costs will be borne by those respective ministries.

What is the Territorial Army?
The Territorial Army is a part-time volunteer force that provides trained units to relieve the regular army from non-combat and static duties and supports civil administration during emergencies like natural disasters. TA personnel serve both as civilians and as soldiers, offering a unique dual-role opportunity.
