WATCH Full Video Gujarat Family Holds Grand Funeral For ‘Lucky’ Wagon R Car After 12 Years
In a heartwarming and unusual display of reverence, a family from Gujarat recently hosted a grand funeral for their 12-year-old Wagon R, crediting the car with bringing them prosperity and success. The funeral, which took place at the family’s farm in Amreli district, garnered significant attention both locally and online, thanks to viral videos capturing the spectacle.

The elaborate ceremony, which cost a whopping Rs 4 lakh, was marked by traditional rituals typically reserved for loved ones who have passed. The Wagon R, adorned with marigold garlands and rose petals, was laid to rest in a 15-foot deep pit, after a solemn procession and prayers conducted by the family. Over 1,500 attendees, including villagers and guests, gathered to bid farewell to the car that was considered more than just a mode of transport—it was viewed as a bearer of luck and good fortune.
Sanjay Polara, the owner of the vehicle, explained the sentimental value of the car to his family. "I bought this car 12 years ago, and it has brought prosperity to us. Not only has it played a role in the success of our business, but it has also earned us respect in society. This car was like a family member," Polara shared. Rather than selling the car, the family decided to honour it with a ceremonial burial, a tribute to the role it played in their lives.
In keeping with the magnitude of the event, Polara went a step further by sending out a detailed four-page invitation to around 2,000 people from his village, narrating the car's journey and its importance to the family's rise in social standing. The invitation emphasized the deep emotional bond the family had with the car, saying, "This car has been like a family member since 2006. It brought us good fortunes and enhanced our reputation."
To ensure the memory of their "lucky car" endures, Polara proposed planting a tree at the burial site. The tree would serve as a symbol of the family’s lasting gratitude and respect for the vehicle, ensuring future generations remember the car's pivotal role in their success.
This extraordinary event not only underscores the deep emotional connection the Polara family has with their car but also serves as a reminder of the unique ways in which personal experiences and beliefs can shape cultural practices. The lavish funeral of the Wagon R has become an unforgettable part of the Polara family's legacy, immortalizing their cherished vehicle in a manner few could ever imagine.
