Was Forced To Watch Sex Films: Malayalam Actor Minu Muneer Levels Harassment Charges On Balachandra Menon

Minu Muneer, a former Malayalam actor, has alleged that director-actor Balachandra Menon forced her to witness a sexual act in 2007. This accusation follows her earlier claims against seven men, including actor Jayasurya, of physical and verbal abuse. An FIR was filed against the accused after her allegations came to light.

In an interview, Muneer shared her experiences and the influence of the Hema Committee report on her decision to speak out. She recounted being coerced by Menon to watch group sex in his room. "There were a few other men sitting and watching. There were three girls and him in the room engaged in it. I walked out of the room. He asked me to sit and watch," she recounted.

Impact of Allegations

Muneer expressed satisfaction with the investigation into her previous charges against actors like Jayasurya and CPI(M) MLA Mukesh. She remarked, "I am very satisfied with the investigation. To see an MLA with so much influence getting arrested is not a simple thing." Her intuition led her to speak up when the Chief Minister promised action upon receiving complaints.

Reflecting on her journey, Muneer voiced disappointment with the film industry. She stated that while she had many dreams, the industry became a nightmare for her. The Hema Committee Report, she believes, serves as a cleansing force for both the industry and society at large.

Legal Challenges

A POCSO case has been filed against Muneer based on a complaint from her cousin. She claims this is retaliation because she didn't help her cousin secure offers in the industry. "She is taking revenge from me because I didn't help her get offers," Muneer said, adding that those opposing her are behind this situation.

Muneer also revealed receiving numerous calls from people attempting to negotiate a settlement, including monetary offers. Consequently, she no longer answers calls from unknown numbers.

Recent Developments

On September 25, Edavela Babu was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) following accusations of physical and verbal abuse by Muneer. However, he secured anticipatory bail in this case.

In late August, Muneer detailed her ordeal on Facebook, naming individuals like Mukesh, Maniyanpilla Raju, Edavela Babu, Jayasurya, Adv Chandrasekaran, production controller Noble, and Vichu as perpetrators of abuse during a 2013 project. She wrote about enduring unbearable abuse which forced her to leave the Malayalam film industry for Chennai.

Industry Reactions

The Hema Committee report's release on August 19 encouraged many women to come forward with their stories of abuse. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was subsequently established to handle these complaints.

Actors Edavela Babu, MLA Mukesh, and Jayasurya have all denied any wrongdoing in response to Muneer's allegations.

Muneer's revelations highlight ongoing issues within the film industry and underscore the importance of addressing such allegations seriously for societal change.
