Vrindavan widows plan to send rakhis to Prime Minister Narendra Modi
Mathura, Aug 14: This Raksha Bandhan widows of Vrindavan are planning to send around 1000 rakhis to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"They (widows) are planning to present around 1000 Rakhis to Prime Minister. At least ten widows also plan to visit his residence with the rakhis on behalf of widows of Vrindavan," Founder, Sulabh International, Bindeshwar Pathak said.

He said the widows will also tie rakhis on the wrist of saints and saskrit scholars. "They will also share food with upper caste sadhus and brahmins on the occasion," Pathak said.
He said the purpose of the initiative is "acceptance" of widows in the society. "Like Holi and Diwali, it would be an attempt to bring widows in the mainstream so that they do not feel isolated," Pathak said.
"A cultural programme would be organised on Aug 17, when Raksha Bandhan would be celebrated," he said.
Sulabh International is providing a financial assistance of Rs 2,000 each to around 900 widows living in six widow shelters in Vrindavan. The organisation, earlier, had also organised programmes for widows during Holi and Diwali.
