Kerala Police Book Opposition Leader VD Satheesan for Youth Congress March Violence
The Kerala Police have filed a case against Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan for his alleged involvement in the violence that occurred during a Youth Congress march to the state secretariat. Satheesan has been accused of attacking the police and causing damage to public property.
In a significant development, the Kerala Police have registered a case against Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan, making him the primary accused in connection with the violence that erupted during a Youth Congress march to the state secretariat on Wednesday. The Congress leader faces serious charges under non-bailable sections of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly attacking the police and participating in the destruction of public property during the protest.

Charges Against Satheesan
According to the police, Satheesan has been accused of leading a group of around 300 Youth Congress activists, including its chief Rahul Mamkootathil, former president Shafi Parambil MLA, and M Vincent MLA, in a violent confrontation with the police. The incident occurred during a protest organized by the Youth Congress against alleged attacks on its members and Kerala Student Union (KSU) members who had shown black flags to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Satheesan's Response
In response to the police action, Satheesan took to social media to express his amusement at the charges against him. In a sarcastic Facebook post, he wrote, "Please tell the Chief Minister that I have got scared." This response highlights the escalating tensions between the opposition and the ruling government in Kerala.
Background of the Protest
The Youth Congress march was organized in response to a series of alleged attacks on its members and KSU members across districts during the state government's Nava Kerala Sadas outreach program. Satheesan, while addressing the march, issued a stern warning to the police, demanding action against those responsible for the attacks on Youth Congress workers. He threatened retaliation if the police failed to take appropriate measures.
Chief Minister's Accusations
In response to the protest and Satheesan's statements, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan accused the opposition leader of attempting to disrupt the peace and incite violence against the government and its outreach program. Vijayan claimed that Satheesan, through his speech outside the secretariat, repeatedly encouraged Youth Congress activists to retaliate, effectively calling for violence against the government and its initiatives.
Escalating Tensions in Kerala
The incident involving VD Satheesan and the Youth Congress march has further escalated tensions between the opposition and the ruling government in Kerala. The registration of a case against the Leader of Opposition underscores the seriousness of the situation and raises concerns about the potential for further confrontations and unrest in the state.
