Vav By-election 2024 Results: Congress' Fate in a Three-Way Battle – Who Will Win?
The counting of votes for the Vav bypoll is taking place on November 23, 2024. A total of 10 candidates are competing to be the next Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Vav constituency. The by-election was triggered by the resignation of Geniben Nagaji Thakor.

Congress candidate and former MLA Gulabsinh Rajput took on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Swaroopji Thakor in the bypoll, but the presence of BJP rebel Mavji Patel made it an interesting fight. Seven other candidates, including six independents and one from the Bharatiya Jan Parishad party, are contesting the bypoll. This election was triggered by the resignation of Congress MLA Geniben Thakor, who was elected to the Lok Sabha from Banaskantha in June.

Vav is an Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) constituency in Gujarat, located in the Banaskantha district, part of the North Gujarat region. The seat is classified as rural and is reserved as a general constituency. Vav is part of the Banaskantha Lok Sabha constituency. The Gujarat Assembly consists of 182 seats in total.

Past Election Results:
In the 2022 Gujarat Assembly election, Geniben Nagaji Thakor (INC) defeated Thakor Swarupji Sardarji (BJP) by a margin of 15,601 votes, which was 6.89% of the total votes polled. A total of 226,502 votes were cast, with the INC securing 102,513 votes (45.26% of the total votes).
Geniben Nagaji Thakor (INC) later won the Banaskantha Lok Sabha seat, of which Vav is a part.
In the 2022 Gujarat Assembly elections, Vav had a total electorate of 302,189 voters, including 157,754 male voters, 144,205 female voters, and 1 third-gender voter.
