UP Train Accident: 6 Killed As Train Hits Pilgrims Crossing Railway Track In Mirzapur

At least six people lost their lives in a tragic train accident at Chunar Railway Station in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday morning. The victims, who had arrived for the Kartik Purnima bath, were struck by the Kalka-Howrah Express after disembarking on the wrong side of the platform, Hindustan Times reported.

According to a statement from Indian Railways, "Train no 13309 (Chopan - Prayagraj Express) arrived at Chunar Station Platform 4 (in Uttar Pradesh). Some passengers got down on the wrong side and were trespassing from the main line while Foot Over Bridge is available. Train no 12311 (Netaji Express) was through from main line. As reported, 3-4 passengers were run over by Train no 12311 (Netaji Express) at Chunar Main," the statement read, as quoted by ANI.

Police personnel were deployed to the site immediately, and relief and rescue operations were launched. The railway administration has initiated an investigation into the incident.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and directed senior officials to oversee the rescue efforts. He also instructed SDRF and NDRF teams to assist and ensure that the injured receive timely medical care.

The Mirzapur tragedy comes just a day after a deadly train collision near Bilaspur railway station in Chhattisgarh, where a passenger train rammed into a stationary goods train. At least 11 have been killed in the incident and left 20 others injured.

The Bilaspur crash occurred around 4 p.m. on Tuesday when the MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) train travelling from Gevra to Bilaspur overshot a red signal and collided with the freight train.
