Union Minister Sends Official Letter To DMK MP In Hindi, Gets Response In Tamil: 'Have Sent Reply In A Way...'

DMK leader and Rajya Sabha MP from Pudukkottai, MM Abdulla, responded on Friday in Tamil to a letter written in Hindi by Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu, stating he couldn't understand a word of it.

The letter from Singh to Abdulla was in reference to questions the MP had raised concerning food quality and cleanliness on trains.

Sharing copies of both letters on social media, Abdulla explained that despite repeatedly informing officials in the Union Minister of State's office that he did not understand Hindi, communications continued to arrive in that language.

"The letter from the office of the Minister of State for Railways is always in Hindi. I called the officials posted in his office and said that I didn't know Hindi, please send the letter in English, but the letter was in Hindi. I have sent a reply in a way he would understand and act accordingly," Abdulla's post on X read.

The DMK MP further requested that future communications from Bittu be sent in English.

Previously, in 2022, the DMK criticised the Centre, accusing it of forcing Hindi onto non-Hindi speaking population of the country.

In response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement advocating Hindi as an alternative to English rather than local languages, DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin warned that such a move could threaten the country's unity.
