TMC Leader Kunal Ghosh Engages with Bangladeshi Lawyer on Chinmoy Krishna Das Case
Kunal Ghosh, a leader from the Trinamool Congress, met with Bangladeshi lawyer Rabindra Ghosh on Tuesday. Rabindra is currently residing in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district for medical reasons. He is defending Chinmoy Krishna Das, a Hindu monk arrested in Bangladesh. Kunal assured Rabindra that his request to meet West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee would be communicated appropriately.

Rabindra Ghosh, who arrived in India with his wife in December, is staying with his son Rahul in Barrackpore. During their meeting, Kunal Ghosh conveyed that Rabindra's request for an audience with the TMC leader would be passed on. The TMC leader explained that the state government cannot intervene in Bangladesh's internal matters and will follow the central government's lead.
Legal Challenges and Political Dynamics
The TMC leader criticised the opposition BJP, urging them to influence the central government to address the minority issues in Bangladesh. "They must prevail upon their government at the Centre to use its offices for an end to the atrocities on minorities in Bangladesh," he remarked. Kunal questioned whether BJP leaders had discussed Chinmoy Krishna Das's release with their central leadership.
Chinmoy Krishna Das, associated with the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote, was detained at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport earlier this month. He was en route to Chattogram for a rally when arrested. Denied bail, he remains jailed until January 2 by a Bangladeshi court. Rabindra Ghosh has been actively defending him despite acknowledging personal risks.
Health Concerns and Legal Appeals
Rabindra Ghosh has expressed concerns about potential false charges against him due to his defence of Chinmoy Das Prabhu. "Since I am defending Chinmoy Das Prabhu, I am aware that false cases could be filed against me, and there is also a threat to my life," he stated previously. Meanwhile, Rabindra was admitted to SSKM hospital after experiencing chest pain and is under observation in the cardiology department.
The lawyer has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging intervention regarding minority persecution in Bangladesh. He emphasised that the interim government there should not overturn decisions made by the previous elected administration. The situation for Hindus in Bangladesh remains precarious amid ongoing political unrest.
