Regional Party Tipra Motha Urges For Peaceful Bandh In Tripura: A Call For Indigenous Rights
The regional party, Tipra Motha has called a 12-hour bandh in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council on Saturday. The aim is to demand an early constitutional solution to the problems faced by indigenous people. This move is led by their leader, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma who urged his followers and local leaders to ensure that this protest is completely peaceful and successful.
The regional party Tipra Motha, under the leadership of its supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, has called for a 12-hour bandh (shutdown) in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) on September 30. The purpose of this shutdown is to demand an early constitutional solution to the issues plaguing the indigenous people of the region.
Call for Peaceful Protest

In his appeal to party MLAs, executive members and MDCs of TTAADC via social media, Debbarma urged them to ensure that the bandh is observed peacefully and successfully. He emphasized that their presence on ground would send a strong message to Delhi about their resolve. "I want to see all the warriors of Tiprasa on the ground in order to remain connected with the people," he stated.
A Cry for Justice
According to Debbarma, who belongs from royal lineage himself, there has been a historical injustice meted out towards 'the sons of soil' over past 76 years. They have been deprived of rights pertaining to land ownership, political representation and economic opportunities. "We have waited for long but now we want our rights to be recognized", he voiced emphatically.
Not Just Politics
Debbarma stressed that this planned shutdown should not merely be seen as a political move but rather as an expression of unity among Tiprasa people demanding their legitimate rights. It aims at sending a clear message across India's capital city - Delhi - about their determination and unity in fighting for justice.
Criticism Towards CPIM
In addition, Debbarma also criticized Communist Party Of India (Marxist), commonly known as CPIM without elaborating on the reasons. It is speculated that this criticism might be related to CPIM's handling of tribal issues during their governance.
In conclusion, the call for bandh by Tipra Motha and its leader Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma signifies a significant moment in Tripura's political scenario. The peaceful protest aims at highlighting long-standing issues faced by indigenous people and demanding their constitutional rights. Whether or not this move leads to tangible changes remains to be seen, but it certainly underscores the growing unrest among Tripura's tribal population over perceived injustices. And while politics might play a role in such movements, it cannot overshadow the genuine grievances of these communities who are fighting for their rightful place in society.
