"Tera Baap...": Furious Congress Chief Kharge Shouts At BJP MP As He Interrupts Him In Rajya Sabha
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge lost his cool on Wednesday during Rajya Sabha's session when BJP MP Neeraj Shekhar interrupted him during his address. Congress chief Kharge reminded BJP MP of his past association with his father, former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, and asked him to sit down. The incident happened when house was discussing the Motion of Thanks to the President's address.
Congress chief was highlighting rupee's declining position against the US dollar when Neeraj Shekhar interrupted him a couple of times. In response, Kharge said, "Tera baap ka bhi main aisa sathi tha. Tu kya baat karta hai? Tujhko lekar ghuma. Chup, chup, chup baith." This statement led to an uproar in the house.

Exchange Between Leaders
The Chairman, Jagdeep Dhankhar, intervened to calm both sides and highlighted Chandra Shekhar's stature as one of India's most respected leaders. He requested Mr Kharge to retract his comments about the former Prime Minister. Despite this heated exchange, both Malliakarjun Kharge and Neeraj Shekhar mentioned that they maintain cordial relations when they meet.
Kharge explained that he and Chandra Shekhar had been arrested together in the past. He clarified that this was why he referred to him as a companion. Addressing Mr Shekhar directly, he said, "That's why I said your father was my companion. And you got up as if..."
Respect for Former Leaders
The Chairman expressed concern over Congress chief's language, stating that referring to another member's father in such a manner was inappropriate. He urged Mr Kharge to withdraw his remarks out of respect for Chandra Shekhar.
In response, Mr Kharge insisted it was not in his nature to insult anyone. He accused the BJP of disrespecting former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by making derogatory remarks about him. He stated that Dr Singh endured these insults silently for the country's sake.
Background on Neeraj Shekhar
Neeraj Shekhar previously served as an MP from the Samajwadi Party before joining the BJP in 2019. His father, Chandra Shekhar, is remembered as one of India's prominent socialist leaders and served as Prime Minister from October 1990 to June 1991.
