Stampede at Maha Kumbh 2025: Mauni Amavasya Amrit Snan Cancelled
Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh: The auspicious Amrit Snan on Mauni Amavasya at the Maha Kumbh Mela has been cancelled on Wednesday following a tragic stampede at the Sangam. The stampede occurred after a barrier broke near the Sangam Nose, creating chaos among the massive gathering of pilgrims.
Prayagraj Mela Pradhikaran OSD Akansha Rana confirmed the incident, stating, "A stampede-like situation occurred at Sangam Nose after a barrier broke. Some people were injured, but nothing is serious."

Emergency teams, including NDRF and NSG units, were immediately deployed to manage the situation. Visuals showed ambulances rushing to the scene and injured devotees being transported to a hospital set up in Sector 2 of the Kumbh Kshetra.
The Uttar Pradesh government had anticipated over 10 crore devotees visiting the Maha Kumbh on this significant day. The rare celestial occurrence of 'Triveni Yog,' observed after 144 years, added to the spiritual importance of the Shahi Snan, drawing even larger crowds than usual.
Security personnel are urging pilgrims to vacate the area after completing their holy dip, prioritizing the safety of attendees.
