Shri Taponidhi Anand Akhara Leads Majestic Procession into Maha Kumbh Mela Area
The Maha Kumbh Mela, a grand event occurring after 144 years due to a rare astronomical alignment, is witnessing the traditional cantonment entries of all Akharas. On Monday, Shri Taponidhi Anand Akhara, dedicated to Lord Surya, made its ceremonial entry. This procession was part of the sacred sequence, as stated by the state government.

The procession of Shri Taponidhi Anand Akhara was led by Naga Sanyasis, Acharyas, Mandaleshwars, and Mahamandaleshwars. They rode elephants, horses, chariots, and camels into the Mela area. The city and Mela administration welcomed them with garlands and floral showers. Residents of Prayagraj were blessed with the rare sight and blessings of the Naga Sanyasis.
Procession Route and Welcome
The procession began at Math Baghambari Gaddi and passed through Labour Chauraha of Bhardwajpuram, Matiaroad, and Alopi Devi Chauraha. It then turned from Dashashwamedh Ghat in Daraganj and entered the sacred Sangam area under the Shastri Bridge. Throughout this journey, residents and city officials warmly welcomed the procession with flower showers at various points.
The dharm dhwaja led the grand procession accompanied by rhythmic drum beats and devotional music. Naga Sanyasis followed closely behind with spears, lances, and swords in hand. They carried the idol of their Ishtadev, Lord Surya. The chanting of Lord Surya's name resonated throughout the procession.
Ceremonial Activities
Upon reaching their premises in the Sangam area, the Akharas first hoisted the dharm dhwaja ceremonially. Following this, amid sacred mantra chanting, they established a temple for their revered deity, Lord Surya. The gathering concluded with saints pledging to uphold Sanatan Dharma and work for world welfare while collectively hailing Lord Surya and Ganga Maiya.
During the procession to the camp, Akhada president Shankaranand Giri guided it along with Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Balkanand Giri. Mahamandaleshwar Surendranand Giri and secretary Kalu Giri Maharaj from Bareilly also participated. Female Mahamandaleshwar Sadhvi Manju Shri Ji and other saints blessed townspeople as they entered the fairground.
Future Processions
The cantonment entry of Shri Taponidhi Anand Akhara marked the final procession in the sequence for Naga Sanyasis' entries at Maha Kumbh. Next in line are Vaishnav Bairagi Akhara, Udasi Akhara, and Nirmal Akhara according to tradition and scheduled dates.
The Acharya, Mandaleshwar, and Mahamandaleshwar rode majestically on chariots, elephants, and horses during the cantonment procession. Their presence added splendour to this grand event. The sacred chanting continued as they moved forward.
