RJD MP Sanjay Yadav Alleges Extortion Call From US-Based Gangster Demanding ₹20 Crore

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav has claimed that he received an extortion call from a "gangster" based in the United States, who demanded a ransom of ₹20 crore.

Yadav stated that the "gangster" threatened him with severe consequences if the money was not paid.

"A call was made to my assistant's phone, and they requested to speak to Sanjay Yadav. My assistant then handed me the phone, and the person spoke in a harsh tone, identifying himself as a gangster. He said he was calling from America and demanded ₹20 crore, warning me to be ready for consequences," the complaint read.

The MP further stated that the caller threatened to kidnap and kill him if the substantial sum was not handed over.

'Gangster threatens MP's children'

The MP's complaint also stated that the caller threatened to harm his children.

"I know all your travel routes, I have information about all your family members, and I know how many children you have. If you want everyone's safety, give me ₹20 crore, or I will kidnap you and have you killed," the complaint recounted.

The caller then added that he could reach and shoot anyone.

"When I told him I was a Rajya Sabha member, the person threatened me again in a harsh tone, saying he was aware of my position. He mentioned that regardless of whether I was a minister or the Prime Minister, they could shoot anyone. The call ended shortly after," the MP's complaint stated.

The Patna Secretariat police station has filed a case under sections 308 (3) and 308 (4) of the BNS.

Sanjay Yadav is a close ally of RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2024.
