Reddit Down For Thousands Users, Second Glitch In 24 Hours

Social platform Reddit experienced an outage affecting thousands of users worldwide, including in India and the United States, on Thursday, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com.

The outage occurred just a day after Reddit rolled out an update aimed at fixing a software bug that had previously blocked access for tens of thousands of users.

Downdetector, which tracks service interruptions by compiling user reports, showed more than 70,000 outage reports in the US before the number decreased to under 21,000. Of these reports, 52% came from users having issues with the website, while 46% were related to problems with the Reddit app.

In India, fewer users reported the outage, with fewer than 700 complaints registered by 9 p.m. on Thursday. Of these, 53% were website-related, and 38% involved issues with the app.

The outages varied in severity, with some users experiencing slow load times and difficulty accessing comments, while others were completely unable to access the site, encountering Reddit's custom error page instead.

This marks the second outage in less than 24 hours. The earlier disruption had made Reddit's website and app inaccessible, but the platform resumed service after releasing a software update to resolve the issue. "There was a bug in a recent update we made, but a fix is in place and we're ramping back up," Reddit stated in a prior update.

In response to the ongoing outage, Reddit confirmed on X that it is "currently investigating a problem" with its site. However, the company did not provide a timeline for a fix or details about the cause of the disruption.

Reddit, known for its social news aggregation, discussions, and niche communities, is widely regarded as the "front page of the internet," playing a central role in trending topics and online conversations.
