'Reconsider and avoid visiting' RSS event: Congress leader to Pranab Mukherjee

Senior Congress leader CK Jaffer Sharief wrote a letter to former President Pranab Mukherjee over his visit to an event of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) scheduled for June 7, requesting him to 'reconsider and avoid visiting'.

In a letter addressed to Pranab Mukherjee, Jaffer Sharief wrote that he was unable to understand the compelling reasons for accepting the invitation to attend the RSS event.

"However, I personally say that a person of your stature, being secular and in politics for decades having served in various capacities including the highest position of Rashtrapati, visiting the Sangh Parivar at this point of time before Parliament election is not proper."

He further said, "Congressman and secular people are stunned to hear the news and are agitated......"

Earlier, putting speculations to rest, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has confirmed that former president Pranab Mukherjee will attend its event 'Varsh Tritiya Varg' or the Third Year Course on June 7.

Eyebrows were raised when it was first reported that Mukherjee would attend the event because Congress president Rahul Gandhi is a staunch critic of the RSS and leaves no stone unturned to target the nationalist organisation at almost every rally or function.
