Bengaluru, December 28: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday threw his weight behind senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to become the Prime Minister of India. His statement came amidst discussions within the Indian National Congress (INC) about projecting Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge as the Prime Ministerial face of the alliance for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Siddaramaiah's Endorsement
Siddaramaiah firmly believes that only the Congress party has the capability to address the country's pressing issues. He asserted, "For that, Rahul Gandhi should become the Prime Minister of the country." Addressing the Congress's 139th foundation day event in Bengaluru, he highlighted Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra as an unprecedented initiative.
Bharat Jodo Yatra and Nyay Yatra
Siddaramaiah lauded Rahul Gandhi for undertaking the Bharat Jodo Yatra, stating, "Nobody in the country had done something like the Bharat Jodo Yatra." He further announced that Rahul Gandhi would soon embark on a second phase of the Yatra, called the Nyay Yatra, to ensure justice for all citizens.
Justice for All
Siddaramaiah emphasized the importance of justice for all sections of society, including backward classes, Dalits, minorities, and women. He explained that the Nyay Yatra aimed to address this issue and provide justice to everyone in the country.
Unity for the Country
Siddaramaiah urged Congress workers to unite and support Rahul Gandhi in the upcoming elections. He stressed the need to set aside differences and work together to bring the Congress back to power. He said, "Forgetting all our differences, for the sake of the country, to protect the Constitution, to save the country's multiculturalism and sovereignty, and to provide justice to everyone, we must fight together and bring Congress back to power."
Soft Hindutva vs. True Hinduism
Addressing the topic of Hindutva, Siddaramaiah drew a distinction between true Hinduism and the concept of soft Hindutva. He stated, "Hindutva is Hindutva. I'm a Hindu. Hindu and Hindutva are different." He highlighted the construction of Ram temples and the practice of religious rituals in villages, questioning the exclusivity of Hindutva to certain groups.
Siddaramaiah's endorsement of Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Ministerial candidate reflects the ongoing discussions within the Congress party about its strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. His emphasis on justice, unity, and the preservation of India's constitutional values underscores the importance of these issues in the upcoming electoral contest.
