Rahul Gandhi Meets Lok Sabha Speaker, Urges Expurgation Of Derogatory Remarks Against Him By BJP MPs In House

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi stated on Wednesday that he met with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and requested that derogatory remarks made against him by BJP MPs be expunged.

"I held a meeting with the Speaker. I told him that derogatory comments against me should be expunged. The Speaker said that he would look into it... Our aim is that the House must run and a discussion should take place. No matter what they say about me, we want a debate on December 13... They don't want a discussion on Adani. In the end, we will not back down. They will continue levelling allegations against us, but the House must function," Rahul Gandhi told reporters.

On December 5, BJP Lok Sabha MPs Nishikant Dubey and Sambit Patra sparked an uproar in the Opposition Congress by alleging ties between Rahul Gandhi and Hungarian-American financier George Soros.

In the House the following day, Dubey raised the issue of Soros and the global investigative news network OCCRP (Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project), saying, "Congress ka haath, Soros ke saath. Congress has relations with OCCRP, which gets all its funds from the US government and George Soros. Did Rahul Gandhi take money from George Soros for the Bharat Jodo Yatra?"

This statement led to a heated exchange, with Congress MPs protesting in the Well of the House, which resulted in an adjournment. Congress members demanded updates on their breach of privilege notices against Dubey and Patra.

Outside Parliament on Thursday, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra responded to Patra's calling Rahul Gandhi a 'traitor', stating, "Those who can call Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi traitors have no qualms about calling Rahul Gandhi one. There is nothing new in this. I am proud of my brother, and for him, nothing is above this country."
