Punjab Police Nabs International Drug Dealer

Punjab Police has arrested a wanted international drug trafficker Shehnaz Singh, aka Shawn Bhinder from Taran Taaran. According to the reports, the suspect is in FBI's list and is linked to a global narcotics network.

His arrest was announced by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on social media platform X. Singh played a significant role in smuggling cocaine from Colombia into the USA and Canada.

The arrest follows a significant operation by US authorities on February 26, where four of Singh's associates were detained. During this operation, officials seized 391 kg of methamphetamine, 109 kg of cocaine, and four firearms from their homes and vehicles. After this crackdown, Singh fled to India but was eventually tracked down and arrested by the police.

Punjab's Anti-Drug Campaign

This development aligns with Punjab's ongoing 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' campaign against drugs, which began on February 25. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann recently led a meeting with senior officials to intensify efforts in making Punjab drug-free within three months. The campaign has shown promising results so far.

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema highlighted the state's commitment to eradicating drugs. He mentioned that in just 12 days, 875 FIRs were registered and 1,188 drug traffickers were arrested as part of the special campaign. The government has also seized Rs 35 lakh in drug money during this period.

Significant Seizures

The campaign has resulted in the confiscation of various narcotics, including 68 kg of heroin, 873 kg of poppy husk, 42 kg of opium, and over 6.74 lakh intoxicating tablets by March 8. These efforts underscore the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government's dedication to tackling the drug menace in Punjab.

The recent arrests and seizures mark a significant step in Punjab's fight against drugs.
