President Droupadi Murmu Calls for Sustainable and Responsible Tourism in Ladakh
President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday said keeping Ladakh clean is a priority for all and emphasised sustainable and responsible tourism in the region.
President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday, October 31, 2022, emphasized the importance of sustainable and responsible tourism in Ladakh while addressing the foundation day celebrations of the Union Territory in Leh. She stated that keeping Ladakh clean is a priority for all and stressed the need to preserve the region's natural beauty and maintain the distinct identity of its people.
Sustainable and Responsible Tourism

Murmu highlighted the significance of sustainable and responsible tourism in Ladakh, emphasizing that the region's development must go hand in hand with the preservation of its environment and cultural heritage. She expressed her happiness over the emphasis being laid on infrastructure development to increase connectivity to Ladakh and acknowledged the implementation of new policies that have contributed to the economic progress of the region, particularly in the tourism sector.
Rapid Multidimensional Development
The President noted that Ladakh is undergoing rapid multidimensional development and commended the people of the Union Territory for moving forward on the path of progress. She lauded the efforts of the Autonomous Hill Development Councils of Leh and Kargil in strengthening grassroots democracy and taking meaningful steps for the development of Ladakh, especially in the area of youth employment.
Increased Budget Provisions
Murmu highlighted that the central government has increased the budget provisions for Ladakh five times in the last four years, reflecting its commitment to the development of the region. She mentioned several steps taken towards developing Ladakh as a carbon-neutral region, including the work undertaken by Public Sector Undertakings for the development of green energy.
Green Energy Initiatives
The President highlighted the establishment of the world's first High Altitude Green Hydrogen Fuelling Station in Leh by NTPC and the recent approval of the Green Energy Corridor Project in Ladakh by the central government. She stated that under this project, renewable energy projects with a capacity of 13,000 MW will be connected to the POWER GRID through the Inter-State Transmission System.
Ladakh's Leading Position
Murmu concluded her address by stating that Ladakh remains at the leading position in the country on the parameters of economic, environmental, and human development in the journey of building a developed India by 2047. She expressed confidence that Ladakh will continue to make significant strides towards progress and prosperity while preserving its unique identity and natural beauty.
