PM Modi Takes Aim at TMC, Congress in Siliguri Rally: Corruption, Dynasty Politics Under Fire
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a massive public rally in Siliguri, West Bengal, where he strongly criticized the TMC and Congress for prioritizing their family interests over the nations development. He called for the removal of the Mamata Banerjee-led party from all 42 seats in the state and assured the Gorkhas and Rajbanshis that the BJP understood their aspirations and challenges.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi intensified his campaign against opposition parties in Siliguri, West Bengal, on Saturday, March 9, 2023. He vehemently criticized the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Congress for prioritizing their family interests over the nation's development. Addressing a massive public rally in the northern Bengal city, Modi urged the people to oust the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC from all 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Addressing Gorkha Concerns
In a significant statement aimed at the Gorkhas residing in the upper reaches of West Bengal, the Prime Minister acknowledged their concerns and expressed the government's commitment to finding a solution. He emphasized the BJP's empathy towards the aspirations and challenges faced by the Gorkha and Rajbanshi communities in the region.
BJP's Strong Presence in North Bengal
Modi's rally in Siliguri marked his fourth public meeting in West Bengal within a span of nine days. The previous three rallies were held in Arambag, Krishnanagar, and Barasat in south Bengal. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP secured seven out of the eight Lok Sabha seats from north Bengal and aims to repeat this success in the upcoming 2024 elections.
Chaiwalas Pranaam and Attack on Dynasty Politics
Beginning his speech with a "chaiwalas pranaam" to the tea estate workers of the region, Modi highlighted the BJP's commitment to the welfare of the working class. He launched a scathing attack on the dynasty politics prevalent in opposition parties, particularly the TMC and the Congress. Modi criticized the TMC for prioritizing the interests of its nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, while the Congress focused on its "royal family children," referring to Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi.
Realizing Aspirations and Addressing Issues
The Prime Minister asserted the BJP's determination to fulfill the aspirations of the people, no matter how challenging they may seem. He highlighted the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, and the attention given to the issues faced by Adivasi communities as examples of the government's commitment to resolving long-standing problems.
Criticism of TMC's Governance
Modi continued his criticism of the TMC government, particularly regarding the alleged sexual abuse incidents in Sandeshkhali. He condemned the state government's apathy towards the victims and accused the TMC of corruption and misappropriation of central funds meant for welfare schemes like MGNREGA. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of basic amenities and infrastructure development for the well-being of the people.
Focus on North Bengal's Development
Highlighting the BJP's agenda for north Bengal, Modi outlined plans for infrastructure development and the promotion of the Tea-Timber-Tourism industries. He unveiled infrastructure projects worth over Rs 4,500 crore for the region, including railway line electrification and national highway projects.
TMC's Response
The TMC dismissed Modi's frequent visits to West Bengal as ineffective in swaying voters in favor of the BJP. TMC leader Kunal Ghosh asserted that such visits would not yield the desired outcome and instead strengthen the resolve of voters to reject the BJP. Ghosh accused the BJP-led Centre of depriving the TMC government of its financial dues and promoting corrupt individuals.
TMC MP's Reaction
TMC MP Sagarika Ghose took to social media to counter Modi's allegations, presenting facts about the non-receipt of funds from the Centre for MNREGA workers and housing projects. She criticized Modi for spreading falsehoods and urged him to act as a responsible Prime Minister rather than an election campaigner.
The political battle in West Bengal intensifies as the Lok Sabha elections draw closer, with both the BJP and the TMC vying for the support of the electorate.
