Pipra Assembly Election 2025: BJP’s Rambilash Kamat vs CPI(ML)’s Anil Kumar in Battle for Supaul Stronghold

The Pipra Assembly seat in Supaul district is shaping up as one of the most intriguing contests in the 2025 Bihar elections. The race features Rambilash Kamat of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) representing the NDA, and Anil Kumar of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), contesting under the Mahagathbandhan banner.

This election highlights two contrasting contenders, one an experienced MLA with local influence and the other a clean, reform-minded challenger from the Left.

Rambilash Kamat: The Experienced Incumbent

A familiar face in Supaul's political landscape, Rambilash Kamat has maintained a steady presence as a grassroots leader. Representing the BJP, he draws his strength from a loyal voter base across the region, especially among upper-caste and agrarian communities. His calm leadership style and focus on local development have helped him retain the confidence of many rural voters.

Kamat holds a Bachelor's degree from Bharat Sevak Samaj College, Supaul (1986) and has declared total assets of ₹97.4 lakh, with no liabilities. His affidavit mentions two minor pending cases, one from 2019 under IPC sections 341, 323, 379, and 504, and another under the Bihar Property Defacement Act from 2014.

Despite these, Kamat's image remains largely positive. He earns his income from agriculture and his MLA salary, declaring an annual income of ₹6.8 lakh for FY 2025-26. His wife's position as a Gram Panchayat Mukhiya adds local political strength to the family's influence.

Anil Kumar: The Clean and Credible Challenger

On the other side, Anil Kumar, the CPI(ML) candidate, represents the reformist and issue-based politics of the Mahagathbandhan alliance. A former government servant and agriculture graduate from Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi (2002), he brings an image of integrity and simplicity to the campaign.

Anil Kumar's affidavit lists no criminal cases, and his total assets are ₹1.82 crore, with liabilities of only ₹3 lakh. His wealth primarily comes from agricultural land worth ₹65 lakh and residential properties valued around ₹1 crore in Tharbitta and Gurkhand. He owns modest vehicles including a Bolero and a motorcycle.

His declared income over recent years has remained stable between ₹5 and ₹6.7 lakh annually, while his spouse, a school principal, contributes an additional salary income. His clean record and disciplined lifestyle have helped him connect with government employees, teachers, and middle-class voters.

Caste and Voter Dynamics

The Pipra constituency has a mix of Yadavs, EBCs, Dalits, Muslims, and upper-caste voters. The NDA, led by the BJP, maintains strong support among upper-caste and Koeri voters, while the Mahagathbandhan relies on the combined strength of Yadavs, Muslims, and the Left's worker base.

Kamat benefits from the BJP's well-organized booth structure and the credibility of being a sitting MLA. His long-standing relationship with local panchayats and development-focused image continue to work in his favor. However, Anil Kumar's clean profile, agrarian roots, and association with CPI(ML)'s grassroots network could attract sections of youth and first-time voters who want change.

Who Has the Edge

At this stage, Rambilash Kamat seems to have a slight advantage due to his incumbency, established voter network, and NDA's organizational strength in rural Bihar. His political experience and image of accessibility make him a formidable opponent.

However, Anil Kumar's reputation for honesty and his connection to farmers and government workers could narrow the gap. The Mahagathbandhan's combined mobilization, especially if backed by RJD and Congress support, may turn this seat into a neck-and-neck battle.

A Contest Between Stability and Integrity

The 2025 Pipra Assembly election captures the contrast between continuity and credibility. Rambilash Kamat stands as a symbol of experience and steady governance, while Anil Kumar projects himself as the voice of integrity and social change.

The outcome will depend on whether voters in Supaul choose to reward experience or opt for a fresh face with a spotless record. Either way, the Pipra contest promises to be one of the most closely fought and issue-driven elections in North Bihar this year.
