Parliament Winter Session: Constitution Debate To Be Held In Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha; PM Modi Likely To Address
The Constitution debate is set to take place in Parliament, as confirmed by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju. The Lok Sabha will engage in discussions on December 13 and 14, while the Rajya Sabha will follow on December 16 and 17. This development comes after the government and opposition parties neared an agreement to resolve the parliamentary deadlock with a discussion marking the Constitution's 75th anniversary.
According to the reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address members of the parliament and is likely to urge all to let the house run smoothly for the sake of people's work. PM Modi is also expected to highlight importance of the Constitution for a healthy democracy and role of Dr BR Ambedkar, the father of Constitution, who provided us a right path.
The Constitution empowers every citizen with some rights and fundamental duties.
Sources indicate that the Samajwadi Party might be permitted to address the Sambhal issue, and the Trinamool Congress could discuss events in Bangladesh within the Lok Sabha. "We are hopeful that Parliament will begin its work from Tuesday. Positive talks have happened," a source mentioned. However, there seems to be minimal chance of a dedicated debate on the Adani issue, though opposition members might bring it up during other discussions.

Opposition's Concerns
The Congress has consistently highlighted allegations against Gautam Adani and other officials of Adani Group concerning bribery and fraud charges by US prosecutors. These concerns, along with protests over incidents like Sambhal violence and unrest in Manipur, have led to frequent adjournments since the Winter Session began on November 25. Despite this, some opposition parties, notably the TMC, have not prioritized the Adani controversy.
The TMC has chosen not to participate in opposition meetings aimed at forming a joint strategy for the INDIA bloc during this session. A TMC insider stated that their party cannot simply endorse Congress' agenda without question. Instead, they wish for Parliament to address various issues such as unemployment, rising prices, and alleged bias against states governed by opposition parties regarding fund allocation.
Political Dynamics
The Congress and its allies have been vocal in criticizing the ruling BJP for perceived attacks under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. Meanwhile, the BJP has accused Congress of violating constitutional norms when it was in power. They assert that Modi's government has reinforced constitutional practices during its decade-long rule.
Despite differing priorities among opposition parties, there is hope for productive parliamentary sessions following positive discussions between government and opposition representatives. The upcoming Constitution debate aims to commemorate its adoption while addressing pressing national issues.
