Oneindia Exclusive: Ahead of Polls, Ranchi Citizens Call For Real Action, Not Promises
As the Jharkhand Assembly elections approach, conversations among residents in Ranchi reveal a mix of anticipation and scepticism. The streets, especially near busy intersections and late-night food stalls, have become hubs for discussions where locals share their views on the political landscape and the current administration's performance.
While there is excitement for the upcoming voting on November 13, many residents express discontent about the state's development. One local, who spoke Oneindia, highlighted the lack of tangible improvements in infrastructure and basic amenities. "If you talk to people on the surface, they might say things are moving, but on the ground, there's hardly any progress, especially when it comes to travel infrastructure and middle-class needs," he said.

Ranchi's infrastructure, according to residents, is deteriorating despite promises made during past election campaigns. The Jharkhand High Court complex, notable for being the country's largest in terms of area, symbolizes the potential the state holds. "If the High Court functions efficiently, it benefits everyone. But we need more focus on infrastructure that supports the daily lives of common people," he pointed out.
Sonu, a street vendor who started his eatery after returning from Dubai during the lockdown, shared his perspective on the challenges faced by small businesses and everyday workers. "I came back when the lockdown began, I decided to start something here," he explained. He emphasized that the new government needs to focus on real action rather than empty promises. "We need leaders who deliver what they promise, not just words. People are tired of seeing no change after election pledges."
When asked about government welfare programs, such as free ration distribution, the resident was skeptical about their true impact. "There are always promises, but on the ground, it's different. Many still haven't received basic benefits like housing," he said.
The general sentiment in Ranchi is clear: citizens are yearning for a government that prioritizes tangible progress and addresses the core issues impacting daily life. Whether Chief Minister Hemant Soren's administration will secure another term or a new leader will take the reins remains to be seen, but one thing is certain- people are hoping for change that moves beyond promises and delivers visible results.
