Not a political tool: Govt to back officer who used stone pelter as human shield
The Union Government has decided not to allow the Army to become a political target. It has decided to completely back the officer who took the decision to use an alleged stone pelter as a human shield tied to a jeep. The government has learnt through the investigations conducted by the Army that the decision was taken reluctantly by the officer.

Investigations found that the officer had taken the decision as a last resort as his unit had to pass through a street filled with stone pelters. The Union Government feels that the decision was taken in an extraordinary situation where the officer had a tough choice to make.
Army sources say that the decision was unavoidable. The unit was surrounded by several protestors who had also taken position on roof tops. These persons were waiting for the Army unit and wanted to pelt stones. There was no way that the unit could have passed without being subject to violence. This led the officer to take the decision to use a human shield, investigations concluded. Defence Minister, Arun Jaitley who has a meeting scheduled on Monday would tell the Army personnel that the officer has the complete backing of the government.
