NIA Arrests Crucial Suspect in 2022 Attari Border Narcotics Case

In a significant development in the ongoing investigation of the 2022 Attari border narcotics case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended Tahseem alias Mota, marking him as the seventh arrest in this high-profile case. Tahseem, hailing from Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, is accused of playing a pivotal role in a drug smuggling operation that saw around 103 kg of heroin, worth an estimated Rs 700 crore, being illicitly transported into India from Afghanistan.

Key Arrest in Attari Drug Case

The heroin was ingeniously hidden within a consignment of liquorice roots and intercepted at the Integrated Check Post (ICP) in Attari, Amritsar, by the Customs department in April 2022. This operation underscores the sophisticated methods employed by drug traffickers to bypass international borders.

Further investigations have unveiled Tahseem's involvement in the financial operations linked to this narcotics network. He is reported to have received multiple cash deposits from Punjab, which were identified as proceeds from the sale of drugs. This financial trail has exposed a larger conspiracy orchestrated by an international drug cartel aiming to distribute narcotics across India.

The NIA's diligent efforts have previously led to the charge-sheeting of four individuals on December 16, 2022. Among them are Dubai-based Shahid Ahmed alias Qazi Abdul Wadood and Nazir Ahmed Qani, both currently absconding. The other two, Razi Haider Zaidi and Vipin Mittal, had been arrested earlier in connection with this case. Additionally, Amritpal Singh was apprehended on December 15, 2023, as he attempted to flee the country, with proceeds from narcotics sales amounting to Rs 1.34 crore being recovered and subsequently frozen under relevant legal frameworks.

On April 9, another suspect, Harwinder Singh alias Soshi Pannu from Punjab's Tarn Taran district, was taken into custody by the NIA. These arrests highlight the agency's commitment to dismantling the networks involved in drug trafficking and its dedication to bringing those responsible to justice.

The case against Tahseem and his associates illustrates the complex and far-reaching nature of international drug smuggling operations and their financial implications. The NIA's ongoing investigation aims to uncover further links in this chain and disrupt the flow of narcotics into India.
