Nagaland Tapi Bypoll: NDPP Candidate Wangpang Konyak Wins

Wangpang Konyak, the candidate from the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), emerged victorious in the Tapi Assembly seat as the counting concluded on Sunday. The tallying of votes in Nagaland's Mon district commenced at 8 am, encompassing 23 polling stations active on November 7.

This bypoll was necessitated following the unfortunate demise of NDPP MLA Noke Wangnao on August 28.

Competing in this electoral race were Wangpang Konyak from the ruling NDPP and Wanglem Konyak, the nominee from the Congress party.

A total of 15,256 eligible voters, comprising 7,788 men and 7,468 women, were entitled to participate in this by-election. Among the 23 polling stations, seven were designated as vulnerable, while six were classified as critical areas.

Despite stringent security arrangements, an impressive voter turnout of 96.25 percent was recorded during the polling process.

To ensure transparency and security, all polling stations were under the surveillance of CCTV cameras. These stations were segregated into five sectors and were supervised by appointed gazetted and central officers.
