Mukesh Sahani Stakes Claim for Deputy CM as Bihar Election Alliances Finalise Seats

With the Bihar Assembly elections 2025 just around the corner, political negotiations are reaching a fever pitch. Mukesh Sahani, leader of the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) and a key ally of Tejashwi Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has made headlines by publicly asserting that he will become the Deputy Chief Minister if the opposition Mahagathbandhan comes to power.

Mahagathbandhan's Internal Calculations

According to Sahani, the seat-sharing arrangement within the alliance has been finalised, and all parties are on board. He said, "I initially demanded 60 seats, but I have reduced my claim. The Deputy CM position has been approved. Strength is measured by electoral hold, not size of the party. The Mahagathbandhan must remain united behind Tejashwi Yadav."

Despite smooth sailing within the Mahagathbandhan, Sahani hinted that the NDA is facing tougher internal negotiations, suggesting its partners are still struggling to align.

Congress-RJD Tensions

A key friction point within the Mahagathbandhan is Congress vs RJD seat allocation. Congress has demanded 78 seats, while RJD has offered 48, with a potential compromise of 55 seats. Observers note that Tejashwi Yadav is cautious, wary of over-allocating to Congress given its historically lower strike rate in elections.

Left parties in the alliance are also lobbying for representation, highlighting the delicate balancing act the Mahagathbandhan must maintain ahead of the polls.

Racing Against the Clock

With voting scheduled for November 6 and 11, alliances are rapidly finalising strategies. Sahani's bold claim to the Deputy CM post adds a confident, even provocative, twist to the opposition's campaign narrative.
