Maharashtra, Jharkhand Polls 2024: Dailyhunt Brings Lightning-Fast Updates, Trends, And Insights
The counting of votes for Maharashtra Assembly polls and Jharkhand Assembly elections will be held on November 23.
The Maharashtra Assembly elections were held in a single phase on November 20, while Jharkhand's 81-member assembly polls were conducted in two phases, on November 13 and November 20.

Maharashtra Assembly Elections
A total of 4,136 candidates contested for Maharashtra's 288 assembly seats, reflecting a 27.7% increase from the 3,239 candidates in the 2019 elections. In 2019, the elections revolved around the BJP-Shiv Sena and Congress-NCP alliances. However, the political landscape in 2024 is far more fragmented due to significant realignments over the past two years.
Six major political parties are in contention:
- BJP
- Congress
- Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction)
- Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction)
- NCP (Ajit Pawar faction)
- NCP (Sharad Pawar faction)
Among the candidates, 2,086 are independents, underscoring the diverse political competition. The outcome of this election is expected to have significant national implications.
Jharkhand Assembly Elections
The elections for Jharkhand's 81 assembly seats were split into two phases. The first phase, held on November 13, saw 683 candidates, including 73 women and one transgender individual, contesting for 43 constituencies.
The second phase, on November 20, featured 528 candidates vying for 38 constituencies. Altogether, 1,211 candidates participated in the polls across both phases.
