Mahakumbh Stampede: PM Modi, Amit Shah Dial UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Extend Every Possible Help From Centre
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently discussed the Mahakumbh incident with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. This conversation followed a stampede-like situation at the event, which left several people injured. PM Modi stressed the importance of immediate measures to ensure the safety and well-being of all attendees.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also reached out to Chief Minister Adityanath after the incident. He assured him of full support from the central government to handle the situation effectively.

Stampede-Like Situation at Mahakumbh
The incident occurred early on Wednesday during Mauni Amavasya celebrations at Mahakumbh. A large crowd gathered at Sangam for the second 'Amrit Snan'. Reports indicate that around 25 individuals were hospitalised, though no fatalities have been confirmed. The chaos unfolded at Sangam Nose, prompting ambulances to rush to the scene and transport the injured to a makeshift hospital in Sector 2 of Kumbh.
According to reports, some elderly individuals and women fainted due to suffocation in the crowded fair area. This led to a stampede-like situation as they collapsed, causing others to fall over them. The force of the crowd broke barricades, resulting in injuries to approximately 25 people.
Efforts and Responses
A green corridor was established to swiftly transport those injured to a central hospital set up at Mahakumbh. A full team of doctors was present for treatment, and preparations were made for air ambulance transportation if necessary.
Prayagraj Mela Pradhikaran OSD Akansha Rana stated, "As per the information that I have received, a stampede-like situation occurred at Sangam Nose after a barrier broke. Some people were injured in the incident. No one is serious and they are getting the required treatment."
Significance of Mauni Amavasya
The early hours of Wednesday saw a massive gathering near Triveni Sangam's ghats for Mauni Amavasya's holy dip. An estimated 80-100 million people are expected at these ghats. Visuals from Kali Marg, Sangam Ghat, and Jhusi areas show thousands waiting behind barricades for their turn.
The Amrit Snan on Mauni Amavasya is considered Maha Kumbh's most important ritual, drawing around 10 crore pilgrims this year. A rare celestial alignment called 'Triveni Yog', occurring after 144 years, enhances this day's spiritual significance.
Spiritual Importance
The Triveni Sangam is where Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers meet and is deemed holiest by Hindus. Bathing here during Maha Kumbh on special dates like Mauni Amavasya is believed to cleanse sins and grant 'moksha' or salvation.
