Maha Kumbh Stampede LIVE: At Least 15 Feared Dead On Mauni Amavasya, UP CM Says Situation Under Control
Maha Kumbh Stampede: A stampede on the Mauni Amavasya on Wednesday has reportedly killed at least 15 in Sangam in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj.
Over 30 people were injured in the incident on the auspicious day where over 10 crore people are expected to take a holy dip.

On Maha Kumbh stampede, NCP-SCP MP Supriya Sule says, "What has happened is very unfortunate. I saw Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti ji's statement who is on the ground and she has made a statement that there is mismanagement. She has asked the Army to come in so the UP government must look into it."
After 'Amrit snan' on Mauni Amavasya, Digambar Naga Baba Chidanand Puri of Panchayati Niranjani Akhara says, "...Due to an unexpected event today, our (Akharas) shobha yatra could not be taken out. We are now coming to take a holy dip in small numbers."

DIG Mahakumbh, Vaibhav Krishna says, "Amrit Snan is about to begin... Everything will be carried out traditionally... The police and administration will assist all the Akharas in their traditional processions... The situation is under control. We are looking into the causes of today morning's incident. It happened because of a huge rush of devotees. More than 10 crore devotees are expected to arrive."
On stampede at Mahakumbh, PM Modi says, "The accident that happened in Prayagraj Mahakumbh is extremely sad. My deepest condolences to the devotees who have lost their loved ones in this. Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of all the injured. The local administration is engaged in helping the victims in every possible way. In this regard, I have spoken to Chief Minister Yogi ji and I am constantly in touch with the state government."

President of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, Mahant Ravindra Puri says, "Today we will bathe our deities. Since the crowd is huge here, we will go to the ghat in small numbers. We are trying our saints and seers to avoid it today unless it is extremely important. We need to keep in mind the situation of ghats and the crowd. The next Amrit Snan on Vasant Panchami will definitely be a grand one... If we can bathe our deities, we will consider we have bathed ourselves... We haven't been permitted by the administration yet, but as soon as we are given the go-ahead, we will proceed. We will not carry out huge processions this time..."
Rahul Gandhi slammed the UP government on the stampede incident.

Yog guru Baba Ramdev says, "This is the Amrit kal of Sanatan... All those who are here during the Amrit Snan of Mauni Amavasya, should stay 'maun' and meditate and pray and indulge in bhajan. They should hold gratitude in their hearts... When in crowds like this, it is our duty to ensure our and everyone else's safety. If everyone is careful, everything will go on smoothly. All devotees who are here need to be patient. The first characteristic of dharma is patience... Even though everyone wants to visit Sangam, it is not practically possible so wherever you are, you can go to your nearest ghat since the flow of water from Sangam will definitely reach every ghat in Prayagraj..."
Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge tweets, "During the Maha Kumbh, the news of stampede on the banks of Teerthraj Sangam in which several people lost their lives and many others got injured is extremely heart-wrenching. Our deepest condolences to the families of the devotees and we wish for the speedy recovery of the injured... Our Congress workers are requested to provide all possible help to the victims."
AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal tweets, "The stampede incident in Maha Kumbh is extremely sad. I pray for the peace of the souls of the devotees who lost their lives in this accident. May God give strength to their families to bear this immense sorrow. A humble appeal to all devotees is to maintain patience and be cautious. Follow the instructions of the administration and take care of each other's safety."
UP CM Yogi Adityanath tweets, "... Devotees who have come to Prayagraj, take a dip at the Ganga ghat nearest to you, do not try to go towards Sangam Nose. All of you should follow the instructions of the administration and cooperate in making arrangements... Do not pay any attention to any rumours."
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati tweets, "The devotees who lost their lives and got injured in the stampede at the Maha Kumbh at the Sangam in Prayagraj is an extremely sad and worrisome news. At such a time, the party wishes that family of victims have the strength to bear this sorrow."
During the Sangam bath, flow of injured individuals continues. Since last night, ambulances have been transporting hundreds of those injured to nearby hospitals for medical care.

Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav tweets, "The news of casualties of devotees in an accident caused by mismanagement in Maha Kumbh is extremely sad... We also appeal to the devotees to exercise restraint and patience in this difficult time and complete their pilgrimage peacefully. The government should learn a lesson from today's incident and make additional arrangements for the stay, accommodation, food, water and other facilities of the devotees. Wishing a speedy recovery to all those injured in the accident."

Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh: President of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, Ravindra Puri says, "... Due to the excessive crowd, we had put our snan on hold. Now that the crowd has reduced and the ghats meant for our snan are being vacated, so it seems that all Akharas will be able to do snan today... Our processions will be carried out as usual according to our tradition but will be at a smaller scale... We are in regular contact with the Mela administration... We have a lot of time and we are in no hurry. We can do snan even at night... In the morning, misinformation was spread to create fear in the minds of people. And they succeeded. In the morning when we talked to everyone we found that the reality was different and a lot of rumours were spread... I want to urge people to not run towards Sangam and take a dip wherever they find Ganga ji..."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the situation in a call with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and called for immediate support measures, according to officials. The Amrit Snan on Mauni Amavasya is the most significant ritual of the Maha Kumbh and is expected to draw around 10 crore pilgrims. This year, a rare celestial alignment called 'Triveni Yog' is occurring after 144 years, amplifying the spiritual significance of the day.
On Mauni Amawasya, Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Avdheshanand Giri Maharaj of Juna Akhara says, "Today's 'snan' was for the welfare of the world. I express my condolence for the accident which has occurred. I hope the families of the injured persons find strength. Due to this, we have postponed our 'Shobha yatra' today."
