INDIA Bloc to Discuss Ladakh Parliamentary Seat Sharing in Upcoming Elections: Omar Abdullah
The National Conference and Congress are set to discuss who will fight for the Ladakh Lok Sabha seat during their talks on a seat-sharing arrangement for next year's general elections. The discussion comes after the recent LAHDC-Kargil election, with NC Vice-President Omar Abdullah stating that his party is firmly with the opposition alliance.
first public meeting after the abrogation of Article 370 and he was not allowed to move without security. He accused the BJP of trying to create a divide in Ladakh on religious lines.
The issue of who will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha seat from Ladakh has become a topic of intense discussion within the INDIA bloc, according to National Conference Vice-President Omar Abdullah. The decision is expected to be made during discussions about seat-sharing arrangements ahead of next year's general elections. Speaking at a campaign event in Kargil on Saturday, Abdullah emphasized that his party remains committed to its alliance with the opposition.

When asked about possible pre-poll alliances between National Conference and Congress following recent developments in Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council-Kargil election, Abdullah responded by highlighting that there are currently no assembly seats available. Therefore, any potential alliance would have to focus primarily on securing this Lok Sabha seat for their coalition. "We are part of the INDIA alliance," he stated unequivocally. "When there will be talk of seat sharing, definitely this Ladakh parliamentary seat will come up for discussion."
National Conference Supports Opposition Alliance
Omar Abdullah is currently campaigning in Kargil as part of a two-day effort supporting NC candidates running in LAHDC-Kargil election slated for October 4th. His party is fighting this election alongside Congress as part of their ongoing political partnership.
Previous Election Losses and Security Concerns
In his remarks, Abdullah also touched upon previous electoral losses suffered by his party despite their support for Congress during 2019 parliamentary elections which resulted in BJP winning the contested seat from Jammu and Kashmir where he once served as chief minister.
Moreover, he alleged that authorities forced him to leave behind his security detail at Zero Point while en route to Kargil and Drass for the public meeting. This marked his first public appearance since the controversial abrogation of Article 370, which stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special status. He was not allowed to move without security, a decision he believed was influenced by BJP's attempts to sow religious discord in Ladakh.
In conclusion, as India gears up for its general elections next year, all eyes are on the seat-sharing arrangements within opposition alliances like INDIA bloc. The decision about who will contest from the strategically significant Ladakh Lok Sabha seat is expected to play a crucial role in shaping political dynamics ahead of these polls. Amidst this political maneuvering, concerns over security measures and allegations of divisive politics continue to add layers of complexity to an already charged electoral landscape.
