Kota’s Coaching Centres Face Safety Inspections And Sealing Drive After Delhi Flooding Incident

In the wake of a tragic incident that claimed the lives of three UPSC aspirants due to flooding at Rau's IAS coaching institute, authorities in Kota are taking immediate action to enhance safety measures across the city's coaching centres. Kota, known as India's prominent coaching hub, is currently under scrutiny to prevent such accidents.

According to Times Now, Rakesh Vyas, the Chief Fire Officer of Kota, has received instructions from the Municipal Commissioner to inspect various coaching centres in the Coral Park, Jawahar Nagar, and Landmark City areas. The inspections are focused on libraries and other facilities operating in the basements, such as mess and gaming zones.

Vyas highlighted that many of these establishments have only a single entry and exit point and lack proper fire safety systems. This inspection drive, set to begin around 11:30 AM today, is expected to lead to the sealing of several coaching centres if safety violations are found.

Vyas stated, "We have inspected nearly 12 establishments with teams from the Municipal Corporation. We have formed 2-3 teams, and the inspection will continue over the next 2-3 days. We will take action if any safety risks are identified. We have imposed restrictions on operating messes and libraries in basements due to the potential risk associated with LPG. We are ensuring basements are used only for parking, and any violations will be addressed."

The focus on safety comes amid growing concerns about the well-being of students, who migrate from various parts of India to Kota for competitive exam preparation. The drive aims to prevent future incidents and ensure that coaching centres adhere to safety standards.

Delhi Coaching Centres Sealed

In a related development, Delhi is also witnessing increased scrutiny of coaching centres following similar concerns. Hundreds of students protested outside an IAS coaching centre in Mukherjee Nagar, West Delhi, demanding better safety measures. The Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) is currently conducting an anti-encroachment drive to clear structures that obstruct storm drains.

MCD Commissioner Ashwani Kumar reported that over 20 basements in coaching centres, which were being illegally used as libraries or classrooms in Rajendra Nagar and Mukherjee Nagar, have been sealed. The action includes 13 basements in Rajendra Nagar. The students' protests underline the need for strict enforcement of safety regulations and improved measures to safeguard their welfare.
