Kolkata Police Uncover Major Fake Number Plate Racket, Leading to Eight Arrests

Kolkata Police have dismantled a significant fake number plate operation, arresting eight suspects and seizing numerous forged plates from various states. The investigation began with a traffic stop that revealed a fraudulent registration.

Kolkata Police have dismantled a significant fake number plate operation in the city, arresting eight individuals involved, an officer reported on Friday. The police confiscated number plates associated with various states, including West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha. The investigation began when Sergeant Souvik Biswas of Kasba Traffic Guard stopped a scooter at Ruby crossing on Thursday.

The intercepted scooter displayed a number plate, WB 05C 1317, which was verified as fake and registered to another owner, Ranjan Dutta. Dutta had previously filed a complaint about receiving repeated prosecution notices. The rider, Mangal Naskar, was taken into custody, leading the police to Ramendra Prasad Keshri, who allegedly provided the scooter.

Fake Number Plate Network Uncovered

Interrogation revealed a workshop in the Picnic Garden area managed by Bikram Shaw. A raid at this location uncovered forged plates from several states and a plate-making machine. Shaw failed to present valid documentation and was subsequently arrested. Further searches in Mullickbazar resulted in the seizure of additional fake number plates.

The officer stated that ongoing raids are being conducted across different parts of the city. Authorities suspect more individuals from West Bengal and other states might be involved in this racket. The investigation continues as police work to uncover the full extent of the network.

So far, eight people have been apprehended in connection with this case. The police are determined to dismantle the entire operation and bring all those involved to justice. This crackdown highlights the importance of vigilance in combating illegal activities that undermine public safety.
