Kolkata Building Collapse: Rescue Operation Underway After 5-Storey Building Collapses
An under-construction building collapsed in Kolkatas Garden Reach area on Sunday night, trapping several individuals under the rubble. Rescue operations are ongoing, with at least 10 people rescued so far. The cause of the collapse is being investigated.
At least 10 people were rescued after an under-construction building collapsed in Kolkata late on Sunday night, officials reported. The incident occurred in Hazari Mollah Bagan, Garden Reach area, around midnight. A search operation is ongoing to locate survivors who may be trapped beneath the rubble.
Rescue Efforts in Full Swing

Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal visited the site to assess the rescue operation. "We have rescued a few people, but the operation is still ongoing," a police official stated. Ambulances were present at the scene to provide immediate medical assistance.
Locals Describe the Collapse
According to local residents who were among the first responders, concrete chunks fell from the building before it collapsed. A loud sound and a thick cloud of dust engulfed the area as the structure gave way. The debris fell on nearby shanties in the densely populated neighborhood.
Concerns About Trapped Individuals
Although the under-construction building was unoccupied, its collapse affected the adjacent shanties. Locals expressed fears that several individuals might still be trapped under the rubble.
Call for Immediate Action
In response to the incident, Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, took to social media to urge immediate action. He called upon the Chief Minister of West Bengal, the Home Secretary, and the Kolkata Police Commissioner to involve the West Bengal State Disaster Management Team for swift rescue and relief operations. Adhikari also shared pictures from the building collapse site.
The building collapse in Kolkata has highlighted the urgent need for effective disaster management and response mechanisms. As the rescue operation continues, authorities are working tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of those affected by this tragic incident.
